The Oxford Holiday Committee’s 2'nd annual Recycled Holiday Ornament contest winners were announced by Jeanie Petersen and Nancy Cody at the Oxford Academy Primary School Winter Concert December 19th. All 58 entrants from 32 primary school students were considered winners, however, given the time limitation, only eleven students were named who showed an exceptional understanding of the concept of recycling.
All students received an official personalized contest certificate, as a show of gratitude. The document stated that, “…while you were having fun creating something from waste materials, you were also learning that if you’re clever, sometimes trash can be reused. This is what environmental conservation is all about.” The NYS DEC donated pencils made of recycled newspapers, stickers, bookmarks, posters, and their own special poster contest calendars.
The ornaments will be on display, with their award ribbons, hand made by Nancy Cody, in the Oxford Village window of 6 On The Squareat 6 LaFayette Park.
